LINDSBORG — To address the nationwide shortages in the nursing field, Lindsborg Community Hospital and Bethany Home will again host free certified nursing assistant classes in conjunction with Hutchinson Community College.

Four summer sessions of Scholarship CNA Training are available with each session limited to 12 students. Dates are May 14-June 4, June 1-22, June 22-July 12, and July 13-Aug. 1.

One member of a McPherson County charitable organization was so impressed with the graciousness of CNAs during a hospital stay, that he initiated the sponsorship of the local CNA classes in 2002. The charitable organization hopes to equip students with the skills needed to secure viable employment and to encourage students to pursue healthcare careers. To date, over 776 students have graduated and include some who are currently in the health industry locally.

Class sessions are 14 working days in length and are held Monday through Friday, which allows many to fit the course work before college classes or within vacation time. Classes, tuition, books, fees and even meals are underwritten by the organization. In order to receive college credits, participants must be sixteen and at least a junior in high school.

Students begin class with lectures, videos and demonstrations given by professional staff from Hutchinson Community College and Lindsborg Community Hospital. Students will then do clinicals when they will glean hands-on experience with guidance from professional healthcare staff. All classes will be held at Bethany Home in Lindsborg.

Enrollment for the class sessions are handled through a competitive application process.

Completed applications are due by March 14, 2018. A review committee evaluates each application to determine the scholarship winners. The application and informational brochure can be downloaded at
