The U.S. attorney’s office reported a Parsons woman pleaded guilty to embezzling $5 million from the Parsons Pittsburg Credit Union headquartered in Parsons.

Nita Rae Nirschl, 66, entered the pleas to money laundering, embezzlement and attempted tax evasion. In her plea, she admitted to committing the crimes while an officer and employee of the credit union.

Beall said Nirschl withdrew money from the credit union and deposited the cash into accounts she controlled. She used the stolen money to buy a house, car and other items.

Sentencing was set for March 5. Prosecution and defense attorneys parties agreed to recommend a sentence of five years in federal prison, Beall said.
