Mary Louise Glidden, 88, of McPherson, passed away at 5:50 a.m. Jan. 8, 2018 while in the company of family members at McPherson Hospital.
Mary was born in Marion on Jan. 9, 1929, a daughter of Doris Alouise (Schultz) and Dr. James Everett Tibbetts.
Mary attended the Marion grade schools and graduated from Marion High School, Marion, in 1946. She then attended Colorado Women's College, Denver, Colorado, Kansas University, Lawrence, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She then attended Tabor College in Hillsboro.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, McPherson.
Mary was homemaker, school teacher, funeral director, and realtor.
Mary was a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served on the board for many years. She was also a member of Sand Hills Sub Council Health Board of Health Systems Agency, Chapter AY of the PEO Sisterhood; Eastern Star, American Legion Post 24 Ladies Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 Ladies Auxiliary, Progressive Literature Club, Domestic Art Club, Tally Hi, Kansas Funeral Directors Association, McPherson and Kansas Realtors Association. One of her greatest loves was teaching junior golf to so many kids for many years.
Mary Louise Tibbetts was united in marriage to Herbert Harrison Glidden, Jr. on June 25, 1950 at Marion.
She is survived by her devoted husband of over 67 years, Herbert H. Glidden Jr., of McPherson; her children, D. Jeanne Ediger and her husband Ed, of McPherson, Kansas, Herbert H. "Trey" Glidden III and wife SueLyn, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Troy D. Glidden and wife Rhonda, of McPherson; her eight grandchildren, Josh Ediger (Teri), Beau Ediger, Sam Ediger (Sarah), Tyler Glidden (Chelsea Holm), Justin Glidden (Kelsey Hammett), Treyce Glidden, Jakob Glidden, Alex Glidden (Jillette Oderman); her 12 great-grandchildren, Logan Ediger, Braeden Ediger, Collin Ediger, Laeton Ediger, Addison Ediger, Landen Ediger, Lawson Ediger, Britton Ediger, Sophia Collins, Bradon Holm, Berkley Holm, and Ensley Glidden; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Doc James E. and Doris Tibbetts; and her brothers, Wilford Dean Tibbetts and James A. Tibbetts;
Friends are invited to call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12 at First Presbyterian Church, McPherson.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13 at First Presbyterian Church, McPherson, with the Rev. H. Dick Reynolds, Jr. officiating.
Burial will be at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson.
