MOUNDRIDGE — Small towns might have limited access to evening activities for adults, so the Moundridge Recreation Commission is hoping to host some of their own.

The MRC will host the first-annual adult dance from 8 to 10 p.m. on Jan. 27 at the Cloud Nine Venue, LLC, located at 205 Avenue A in Moundridge.

Moundridge Recreational Director Vicky Kessler explained that the upcoming dance offers a chance for adults to have fun and get moving in the area.

"When I started with MRC about six months ago, one of the things that we wanted to established were more activities for adults. We feel like we have a lot of activities in place for our youth, but not for our adult population. We brainstormed and looked into some different things and I decided to add an adult dance," Kessler added. "The whole point is to get people moving."

The evening will offer a chance to learn two- step and line dancing, which will be instructed by Shirley Delk.

"People that attend will learn the dances and then they get to put their new moves to use," Kessler said.

For those who catch on to the ways of two-step and line dancing will have the opportunity to compete in a dance off.

"My honor society members will be choosing the best couple for the night. It will be kind of a snowball effect where you have some couples get out on the dance floor then they can go pick out another partner from the crowd and keep adding on," she noted.

From 1970s music to present-day tunes, the dance will offer something for everyone.

"We will play a variety of music. Fast songs and songs from different decades. A good portion will be country western," Kessler said.

Cost to attend the event is $5 per person and can be paid at the door the night of the dance. No reservations are needed and non-alcoholic drinks and refreshments will be provided. For more information, call 620-345-2608.
