1. Sunflower Still Life
NEWTON — Ages 8 to adult are invited to create three Kansas sunflower still life paintings with instructor Peggy Wambold as part of "Celebrate Kansas" activities on Jan. 27, at Carriage Factory Art Gallery, 128 E. Sixth St. The class runs from 10 a.m. to noon. All supplies are included.
"Participants will take home three five-inch by seven-inch paintings using mixed media, acrylic and pastels. One of the paintings will be matted to fit an eight-by-ten inch frame," said Wambold, who taught art in public schools for 38 years.
She is a member artist of Carriage Factory Art Gallery with art on display. Wambold has a fine arts degree from Fort Hays State University with majors in drawing, painting and print making.
The class is open to the public but limited in size, so reservations are needed. The class is $40 per person.

2. Martin & Fitzgerald
WICHITA — Friends University will host a Final Friday reception featuring Charlotte Martin and Lauren Fitzgerald, both Friends University artists-in-residence. The reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 26 in the Riney Fine Arts Gallery in Riney Fine Arts Center.
“The art department and its faculty are an essential part of Friends University,” said Lauren Fitzgerald, Friends University alumna. “As an alumna, I cherish the time I spent in the art department and highly value the guidance I received there.”
The show will be on display through Feb. 17.
The opening reception is free and open to the public and will take place in the Riney Fine Arts Gallery at Friends University, 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita.

3. Let Go & Create
Learn an exciting, method to create beautiful, movement-filled, effervescent art with a brushless painting technique.
The class is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 29 and is hosted by the McPherson Arts Alliance Gallery, 223 S. Main. The class will be taught in the McPherson Opera House, Lower Level in the Mary Anderson Arts Center. Instructor is Estelle Yadon Renberger.
