The McPherson City Commission met for a regular meeting on Monday and here’s what you need to know:

1 Commissioners authorized payment to the McPherson County Human Society in 2018 for an amount not to exceed $12,000 for management of the 2018 Fix-A-Cat Program.

Mary Steffes, McPherson County Humane Society, presented a report of activities on the Fix-A-Cat Program. The city provided $12,000 in funds for the program in 2017.

2 The McPherson Convention and Visitors Bureau was approved for two sports grants. They will award $600 for the second-annual Kansas High School Girls Wrestling State Championship to be held at McPherson High School on Feb. 10 and $600 for the 12th Annual McPherson High School Girls Soccer Invitational Tournament to be held in McPherson on March 26, 27 and 29.

McPherson CVB Director Joni Regnier was also approved to attend the Travel Industry Association of Kansas Destination Statehouse Conference in Topeka on Feb. 7 and 8, for a cost not to exceed $551.25. Travel expense includes two-nights lodging, mileage, registration fees and food.

3 The commission approved two items concerning the McPherson Police Department.

Commissioners accepted the resignation of Officer Trevor Cole, effective Jan. 26. He has accepted a full time position with the Kansas Army National Guard.

Commissioners also approved the engine repairs to Police Unit #21, by Midway Motors, at an estimated cost not to exceed $7,000.

4 The McPherson Fire Department was approved to purchase R-1, a rescue emergency response vehicle, for the department at a cost of $40,200. The purchase replaces the R-1 vehicle that was taken out of service and this is a budgeted item.

5 The commission voted to authorize McPherson CVB Director Joni Regnier to approve the 2018 Memorandum of Agreement between the city of McPherson and the City of McPherson Pipe Band. The city will pay the pipe band an amount not to exceed $1,600 over 2018 for their representation of the city at both McPherson events and performances around the state.
