Perkins Restaurant & Bakery at 2111 E. Kansas Ave. in McPherson is in its 20th year, but also its last.

The well-known pie and breakfast spot is currently attached to the Econo Lodge. Changes planned for the location’s future now do not include space for Perkins.

Diane Hoard, general manager and co-owner of the restaurant, received news a couple of weeks ago and is now considering options to keep the restaurant in town.

"We've leased this space for 20 years from the property owners of the Econo Lodge and we were negotiating with them to continue that lease. We were notified about two weeks ago that we're no longer in negotiation and we've lost our lease," Hoard explained.

Hoard and her team are unsure about what will happen to their building, but hope to find another property for another Perkins in the future.

"We are hopeful that we could find some property here in this area. We have looked at a few places that might be something we can convert. But I don't think there's anything immediately available," she said.

Their last day of business is set for Feb. 25.

"We just want to thank the McPherson community and we feel like we've been well supported over the last 20 years. We really want the public to know this was not our choice and we would love to still be here and we're going to do everything we can to be here somehow," Hoard said.

Although this location will be gone, another will soon be close by.

"I have told many of our customers that Perkins is going to Salina. However, that's a different ownership group. But it should be up three weeks after we close. I know it's not the same, but it is certainly an opportunity to get some Perkins," Hoard said.
