For seven years, A5 Western, 102 N. Main St. in McPherson, has provided top quality western clothing, boots and accessories. Now, the store will have more room for inventory as they expand the store.

"We bought this building four years ago and recently The McPherson Travel Agency, located next door to us, moved to a remote location and we were able to take over that space — our store really needed more space," said co-owner Janey Anderson.

The process of expanding began in January of this year, and two weeks ago, walls were knocked out from between the buildings.

The new addition will offer a cowgirl chic boutique titled, Ramblin' J Boutique.

Anderson wanted to add the boutique due to the need voiced by current customers.

"Some ladies would come to me and say, 'I'm not country enough to wear this clothing.' So that's why we added Ramblin' J's — it has a little bit of everything." Anderson said.

The store will also be bringing back their children’s boots and apparel.

"We've done wonderfully with the childrens boots we've had in the past and we've gotten multiple requests for kids’ rodeo clothing and so we've partnered with Cinch and Ariat to bring back the children’s items in the store," Anderson said.

The boutique is still in the works and signs will be coming in by the end of February. Hopefully, everything will be finished by the middle of March.

"The boutique and ladies clothing will be in the McPherson Travel Agency part and the mens clothing will be in the original location," Anderson said.

A5 Western is noted for one of the largest stocks of flame resistant clothing in Kansas, which is helpful to the McPherson community of refinery, factory or farming workers.

"All the gentlemen that work for the pipeline and the refinery, they have to have flame resistant clothing — that's a very large part of our business. We offer shipping to them as they will often times be sent away for weeks at a time," Anderson added.

Another area Anderson takes pride in is the special orders they can do if customers see something that is not in their store.

"If someone is looking for something in particular, we do special orders for people. Obviously, I can't carry everything in my store — coming from a small town and being family owned," Anderson laughed.
