Delish — Taste Life, 204 N. Main St. in McPherson, is opening its doors a little bit earlier than normal to accommodate early risers in McPherson.
While Delish has been open for over a year now, what many don't know is that they offer a breakfast menu.
"We used to do breakfast every day, but we didn't have the sales so we changed it last October. We do breakfast on Friday and Saturday mornings and we've been approached by a couple of breakfast clubs that meet at Perkins to open up a little earlier to have their group meetings here," said Delish owner Ann Koehn.
Perkins Restaurant in McPherson will close Feb. 24. To chip away at the need for breakfast options, Delish will open at 6:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The thought to change hours initially began in the beginning of February when an employee from Perkins came in asking if Delish was hiring.
"We found out about Perkins when one of their employees asked if we were hiring. We found out later that day from Diane and Tim (co-owners of Perkins), that they were closing. The next morning we were approached from a gentleman from one the breakfast clubs that meets out there on Fridays. He asked me if we would be interested to accommodate his group and another group," Koehn explained. "We talked about it and thought it wouldn't be wise of us to not do it. We thought, 'alright, 30 minutes earlier is not that big of a deal."
Delish's current hours are Monday through Thursday 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursday evening from 5 to 9 p.m., 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
"We want people to know that we are doing breakfast. We open at 7 a.m. right now, which will only be half an hour later than when we change our hours," she said.
To adapt the hour changes coming soon, Koehn said they are looking to bulk up their staff, but noted they are mainly looking for kitchen work.
"We are looking to add kitchen staff. We're pretty good on our front wait staff, but we don't want to discourage anyone from applying. If they have experience and are coming from Perkins, we will certainly talk to them. We're looking to bulk up out staff overall, but mainly in the kitchen so we can handle everybody that wants to come in for the morning," Koehn added.
Overall, Koehn hopes to accommodate everyone in the community, early risers or not.
"We hope we can bring in the earlier groups and to better serve the community," she said.
