The Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of the Plains chapter hosted the annual poster contest for fifth graders again this year.

This year, the students researched the Battle of Fort Ticonderoga and developed their posters centered on that event.

The participants were from Mrs. Stucky’s Class and Mrs. McAllister’s fifth grade classes.

Thirty-six of the fifth graders chose to participate and had a great learning experience while competing for cash prizes awarded from the chapter to the top three posters.

The winners this year were Kadee Stewart, first, Isabel Backhus, second, and Londyn Olsen, third.

First place winner Kadee Stewart’s poster will go on to the state competition next month at the Kansas SAR State Conference. The winner there will compete in the National Contest in Houston later this summer.

The Sons of the American Revolution is the leading male lineage society that perpetuates the ideals of the war for independence.
