MOUNDRIDGE — Whether it is "Butterfly Kisses" or "Happy" that gets their feet moving, fathers and daughters will have plenty of time to dance the night away at a new event in Moundridge.

Moundridge Recreation Commission is hosting its first annual Daddy Daughter Dance from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 7 at Cloud Nine Venue, located at 205 Avenue A in Moundridge.

Daughters (suggested ages are 5 to 12 years old) are invited to bring their father, grandfather, uncle or father figure for an evening that will include desserts, games and dancing.

Moundridge Recreation Commission Director Vicky Kessler said she received requests from residents for more activities in town. After an adult dance was held in Moundridge, several children expressed a desire for an event of their own.

"I was looking for opportunities to expand what we were doing," Kessler said.

Kessler went to volunteer at a daddy-daughter dance in Newton to see what the night entailed and gleaned ideas for Moundridge's event.

"It was just darling. I thought it was a great way to honor the person with whom they have a special relationship in their life," Kessler said.

Cupcakes and punch are on the menu for Moundridge's Daddy Daughter Dance, along with ice breaker games to start the evening.

"Sometimes it's hard for dads or grandfathers to get out and dance," Kessler said.

There will be plenty of peppy and poignant tunes for fathers and daughters to dance to as well.

Attendees are welcome to either dress up or wear more casual clothes for the dance.

"I imagine I'm going to see lots of different things," Kessler said. "That's not our point. It's fine if you do (dress up), but I want people to be comfortable and enjoy the evening."

A photographer will be present at the dance to capture special moments at Cloud Nine Venue.

"It's a beautiful venue," Kessler said. "We don't have to do any decorating. It's just gorgeous."

Kessler noted Moundridge Recreation Commission also has new mother/son and family events in the works for later this year.

Daddy Daughter Dance tickets are $10 per couple and $2.50 for each additional daughter. Tickets can be purchased at the Moundridge Elementary School Office (207 S. Drucilla Ave.) or the Moundridge Recreation Office (626 Cole St.). Registrations for the Daddy Daughter Dance are due April 5.
