Lane Fleming had four hits - including two home runs - and drove in six to lead the McPherson College baseball team to a 13-4 victory over Central Christian College Wednesday at Bulldog Park.
The victory gave McPherson (26-16) a 3-0 edge in the City Series, clinching the season series with one meeting remaining.
The Bulldogs grabbed an early lead in the first as Trevor Haycockdoubled to deep right to lead off the frame and eventually scored on an Evan Willow sacrifice fly.
The Tigers (5-36) took the lead in the top of the third as Chris Sanchez led off the inning with a single, then scored on a two-run home run to left by Shomari Cann.
Fleming launched his first blast of the game in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game.
A Josh Clyden sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth put Central Christian back in front, but the lead would once again be short-lived as McPherson posted four runs in the bottom of the inning. Dylan Fontenot sent a 1-0 pitch from Corbin Ramos over the fence in left field to tie the game. Dominick Ramos followed with a two-run single and Haycock scored on a sacrifice fly - this one by Fleming - for the second time in the game.
The Bulldogs added one run each in the fifth and sixth innings as Willow scored on a wild pitch and Fleming drove in Jackson Goodmiller with an RBI single up the middle.
After a scoreless seventh, the Tigers plated a run in the top of the eighth as pinch-runner Joshua Zachary scored on an RBI single through the left side by Jared Jones.
Goodmiller drew a walk and Ramos was hit by a pitch to lead off the McPherson half of the eighth and both came across as Fleming went first-pitch swinging and clouted a 3-run home run over the center-field fence. Willow and Brevin Baessler drew consecutive walks with Willow scoring on a Fontenot RBI double. Tristan Hawkinson- running for Baessler - moved up to third on the play and scored three pitches later when a Bailey Jay offering got away from Zachary Gingrich.
Jake Herman came on to pitch a scoreless ninth for McPherson, working around a single and a walk to open the inning.
Cameron Oram got the start on the mound for the Bulldogs, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk. Javier Saenz came on to start the fifth and scattered five hits over the next four innings to get the victory.
Ramos and Fontenot each had two hits and two RBIs, while Strebin had two hits and drew a pair of walks. Willow had a hit, an RBI, drew two walks and scored twice as McPherson posted 13 hits.
Ramos took the loss for the Tigers, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings. Landon Stevens allowed two runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings before yielding to Jay, who was charged with five earned runs on three hits and three walks in two innings.
Sanchez had three hits to lead Central Christian, while Cann had two hits and two RBIs.
The Bulldogs return to Bulldog Park Saturday afternoon when they kick off another Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference with a single 9-inning game at 2 p.m. against the University of Saint Mary.
