HUTCHINSON — The Canton-Galva High School softball team traveled to Hutchinson Trinity on Thursday and lost both ends of a doubleheader, dropping the first game 14-4 before Trinity scored late in game two for an 8-5 victory.

The losses drop the Lady Eagles to 0-3-1 for the young season.

In game one, Trinity put five runs on the board in the third and sixth innings to gain the runaway 14-4 win.

For the Lady Eagles, Ashton Brewer and Taryn Nordstrom each had two hits, with Brewer blasting out a triple. Nordstrom and Carissa Klatt each had two of the Canton-Galva’s ten stolen bases.

Brewer, Klatt and Megan Maltbe each took turns on the mound in game one.

Canton-Galva jumped on Trinity in game two with five runs in the first inning, unfortunately the Lady Eagles were unable to push across another run in any of the final six innings, while Trinity had tied the game in the fifth before pushing across three runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the 8-5 win.

Emily Peterson had a huge game for the Lady Eagles with two hits, a double, two stolen bases and two runs batted in. Nordstrom, Jayci Mastre and Alexa Burch also collected two hits each as Canton-Galva pounded out 12 hits for the game. Brewer knocked out a double, while Burch and Taylor Everett each had two stolen bases.

Brewer pitched the whole game for the Lady Eagles, giving up 14 hits, eight walks and the eight earned runs while throwing four strikeouts.

Next up, the Lady Eagles will host Little River on Friday, depending on the weather.
