WINFIELD — The Smoky Valley High School boys tennis team has two doubles teams and a singles entry remaining on day two of the Class 4A State Tennis Tournament in Winfield.
The doubles teams of Nick Reinert and Johann Rauchholz and Matt Lucas and Jake Lucas are both alive on the backside of the doubles draw, while Cole Brumbaugh is also backside in the singles bracket.
All five Vikings will medal as each entry can place as high as fifth and as low as 12th.
Reinert and Rauchholz will face McPherson’s Rhett Edmonson and Jackson Schrader, while the Lucas duo will face Bonner Springs’ Coleton Nelson and Foster Hoch. If both Smoky Valley teams were to win or lose, they would face off in the next round.
In singles, Brumbaugh will face Gavin Crowe of Winfield in his first match.
Day two of state gets underway at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at the T.H. Vaughan Tennis Complex in Winfield. The Vikings have a chance at a top-five finish as a team.
