V.E. “Skip” Skipton of McPherson, passed away on April 22, 2018 at his home in Sun City West, Arizona.
He was born on April 29, 1932 at his parents farm in Washington County, one of seven brothers and one sister born to Jesse O. Skipton and Florence E. (Congleton) Skipton.
Skip attended Tebo Grade School and graduated from Haddam High School.
After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War he attended and graduated from Peru State Teachers College, Peru, Nebraska and did his upper graduate studies at Emporia State Teachers College where he received his Master’s and EDS Degrees. As an educator he served as a teacher (Fairbury, Nebraska) principal (Blue Rapids) and Superintendent (Belleville, USD 427). After leaving the teaching profession he joined Kansas Truck Equipment Co. of Wichita, Kansas, as a sales rep.
Skip was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on the USD 418 Board of Education for twenty two years and was member of the American Legion. Skip enjoyed motorcycling, camping, golf, and later cards and cribbage with family and friends.
On July 4, 1981 he was united in marriage to Yvonne (Allerheiligen) Bergstrom in Plymouth, Nebraska.
He is survived by his wife of the home. Sons, Jeff Skipton and wife Jana, of Belle Vista, Arkansas, Virgil “Brad” Skipton of San Francisco, California, and Dein Skipton and wife Dee of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Rob Bergstrom and wife Kristy of Lindsborg, James Bergstrom and wife Cari, of McPherson. His brother, Darrell Skipton of Orange Park, Florida, sister- in-law, Marlene Skipton of Belleville, Kansas and Frances Skipton of Wichita, Brother in law Wayne (Brenda) Allerheiligen, Overland Park, his grandchildren, Anji (Danny) Peacock, Nathan (Jill) Skipton, Alayna (David) Hovis, Ashley Hughes, Wyatt McDowell, Jamie (Lei) Chermak, Megan Bergstrom, Kelcy Bergstrom and Kaitlyn Bergstrom, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Freeman, Sherman, Jesse Jr., John, Don, and sister Virginia. Sister in law Ilene, Esther, Mary and Carol and sister and brother in law, Ardith and Roland Dilley and his first wife Shirley Jean Skipton.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2018 at the family farm with Reverend Tim Leaf officiating.
