MOUNDRIDGE — The West Zion Mennonite Church concert series continues with a concert at 7 p.m. on June 10 at 101 S. Washington Avenue in Moundridge, KS.

No admission will be charged, but during the concert a free-will offering will be received to help defray costs associated with the Concert Series.

Scheduled performers will include Joey Menninga, Viola; RoJean Loucks, Celtic Harp; the Flannelbacks, a men’s vocal and acoustic ensemble; Christopher Shaw, Organ; and Donna Stucky, Piano. 

Joey Menninga

Joey Menninga, a native of Wichita, has served as orchestra director in the Newton, schools since 2004. Joey is a graduate of Bethany College, Lindsborg, and Wichita State University. He has played viola in Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony, the Bethany College/Lindsborg Community Orchestra, the Hutchinson Symphony, the Salina Symphony, and the Hays Symphony. He is also currently a member of Silver Sound String Quartet from Wichita as well as a member of a local, Irish-inspired band called the Sassanachs.

RoJean Loucks

RoJean Loucks, Celtic harp, resides in Lindsborg. Years ago she fell in love with the sound of the folk harp and it wasn’t long before she decided that she would have to get one and learn to play it. Even though she had played the flute and piano for many years, she found that learning the folk harp had a whole new learning curve! She has been able to travel to Norway, Canada, Ireland and Japan with her harp. Many of the selections she plays are her own arrangements and she has published a number of them. RoJean is in demand to play at weddings, memorial services and often gives programs, sharing her faith journey and stories of her instrument.

The Flannelbacks

The Flannelbacks are a bluegrass and folk band that was formed in the dorm rooms of Bethel College in the fall of 2014.

The group has found enjoyment and success in recreating favorite and tunes as well as performing original songs. With a mix of guitars, banjos, mandolin, upright bass, harmonica to accompany vocal harmonies, the Flannelbacks appeal to persons of all ages. 

Christopher Shaw

Christopher Shaw, Organ, is a graduate of Bethel College and Wichita State University. Shaw has taught choral music in Madison, Moundridge, and Hutchinson public schools. He is currently the Choral Director at Goddard High School. In addition to teaching, Chris is the staff organist at Plymouth Congregational Church, Wichita, and teaches private piano and organ lessons.

He has studied organ with Lynne Davis, Roseann Penner Kaufman, Shirley Sprunger King, and Ken Rodgers. He has also studied with Karen Schlabaugh and Karen Andres.

He is a member of ACDA, NAFME and AGO, where he serves as Past-Dean on the Executive Board of the Wichita Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Christopher is also an active organist, accompanist, guest conductor and clinician in Central Kansas.

Donna Stucky

Donna Stucky is a retired public school music teacher who is a church musician in the Mounridge and Newton area. She is a life-long member of West Zion Mennonite Church, where she also leads the Chancel Choir. She is a graduate of Wichita State University.
