The Weatherization Assistance Program is the nation’s largest residential energy efficiency program. Very simply, weatherization improves heating efficiency and fuel savings by ensuring your home holds in heat and air-condition, while keeping hot and cold air out.
At no charge to the client, income eligible families receive a comprehensive home assessment which may include repair or replacement of heating systems, insulation and caulking.
Weatherization services may include sealing of drafts and air leaks, caulking doors and windows, weatherstripping. Also, testing, cleaning and repairs of heating and cooling systems and water heaters. Adding insulation to ceiling, walls, floors and foundations. Plus, lighting, refrigerator and fan upgrades Local service provides supply quality work performed by skilled personnel. Some providers use their own crews. Other hire local private contractors.
Eligibility is based on household income relative to federal low-income guidelines. If a household contains a member who received one of the following: Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or LIEAP Utility Assistance benefits; the applicant is automatically eligible for weatherization services. Certain restrictions to apply.
The process involves four steps:
— Submit an application.
— Undergo a home energy audit to identify specific needs. 3.
— Complete the weatherization of the home. 4. Conduct a post- weatherization inspection to assure quality.
— The income requirements include household size and income. 1 person, income limit $24,280; 2 person, $32,920; 3 persons, $41,560; 4 persons, $50,200; 5 persons, $58,840; 6 persons, $67,480; 7 persons, $76,120 and 8 persons, $84,760.
The Weatherization Assistance Program, administered by the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation, is funded annually by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program.
