INMAN  — An afternoon of sipping, serenades and lovely art are all on the menu for this year’s “An Artful Taste of Autumn, set 2 p.m. until dusk Sept. 29 at La Torre Event Venue, 158 Chisholm Rd. in Inman.

“An Artful Taste of Autumn” was started by La Torre’s previous owners, Chris and John Hershberger. “It is a fundraiser for different arts programs,” said Katie Heller current owner of the home at 158 Chisholm Road, which was built in the style of an Italian villa.

“We choose a different beneficiary every year, as well as a chance to introduce the patrons to new wine and food pairings.”

Heller started coming to La Torre as an artist displaying her creations for “An Artful Taste of Autumn.”

“I set up a booth at five of the previous fundraiser events, and became good friends with the Hershbergers. When I heard that they were selling the property, I discovered that it was my calling to take the reins,” Heller said.

This year, Heller is heading up the event — and it will benefit the McPherson Arts Alliance.

“I chose the McPherson Arts Alliance this year, because I wanted to help a local arts program and I know several of the members,” Heller said.

The afternoon’s guests will be treated to six wine pairing stations, each with a wine priced around $10 to $15 a bottle, and a food chosen to go with it.

“The wines and foods are chosen ahead of time, so we know for sure the flavors go well together,” Heller said. “I try to have a good balance of options for vegetarians and gluten-free diets.”

Artists will showcase their work at booths set up around the venue.

“There will be two art booths that are a collection of the Arts Alliance’s artists, and several of the other artists with their own booths that are members as well,” Heller said.

The evening will feature music by Dr. William Unsderfer, a Salina pediatrician and sometime singer.

“He will be singing a cappella and moving around the property so everyone will have the pleasure of hearing him at different times,” Heller said.

Roger Toliver of Tulsa, Okla., will be bringing Kitara, a Eurasian eagle-owl to the event so that guests will have the opportunity to get their photo taken with a member of the world’s largest species of owl.

Tickets for An Artful Taste of Autumn are $37 and can be purchased at Clayworks, 107 N. Main St. in McPherson; Mustard Seed, 214 N. Main St., in Buhler; or online at
