Several USD 418 students were selected to perform at the Kansas Music Educators Association conference in Wichita this weekend.

The McPherson High School Select Women's Choir was chosen to perform at the State KMEA Convention on Thursday, Feb. 21.

“This is the very first time a choir from McPherson High School has been selected to perform at the State KMEA Convention,” said Nicholas Griggs, USD 418 choir director.

The McPherson Middle School Honors Choir was also selected for the first time to perform at the All-State KMEA Convention on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Also from the middle school, the Jazz Band was selected to perform at the All-State KMEA Convention on Saturday, Feb. 23 - another first for the middle school.

McPherson College honor band

At the collegiate level, four McPherson College students were selected to perform with the Kansas Intercollegiate Honor Band at the Kansas Music Educators Association State Convention on February 22, 2019 in Wichita. Musicians were selected through blind auditions adjudicated by a panel of college music teachers.

“I am especially proud of the students who were selected,” Kyle Hopkins, director of bands at McPherson College, said. “They are not music majors, yet all are committed to making music a life-long passion.”
