cPherson Hospital has been no stranger to change. From renovations to the building to breaking away from Via Christi in March of 2017. In 2016 the hospital saw a slew of new faces when they merged with  Family Practice Associates of McPherson.

"The changes have been great," Duane Wedel, director of physician clinics at the hospital said. "The merger has been very beneficial for both the hospital and the FPA staff."

Construction on the new building for the physicians clinic began last March. The new medical office is located on the southwest corner of hospital property. The building has seven wings containing 42 exam rooms and two procedure rooms. The clinic offers lab work and x-ray services on-site, with new equipment for both.

"It's wonderful to have those services for the patients," Wedel said.

All funds for construction of the building were provided through philanthropic support. Last Spring the McPherson Healthcare Foundation successfully completed the $5 million Caring for the Future campaign.

"I want to thank the community of McPherson," Wedel said. "It shows that this small community believes a lot in healthcare and McPherson Hospital, because without that, this building wouldn't be possible."

The benefits go beyond that of equipment and immediate services. The changes the hospital has seen have a more extensive impact on healthcare in McPherson as a whole.

"It's really nice to have good care and not have to compete with one another," Wedel explained. "It allows more buying power, which makes it easier to expand services and bring providers into the community. All of this boosts staff morale"

The future may hold some more good changes for the clinic. The hope is to expand further and offer more OB-GYN services and hopefully bring sonography equipment to the clinic.

"We want to continue to grow and recruit," Wedel said. "Especially in the OB side."

They may be in a new home, but the quality of care they provide hasn't changed. Patients and their health are still the top priority.

"The staff that we have in the clinic and hospital are dedicated to patient care," Wedel explained. "It's priority one to get patients seen as quickly as possible and provide the services they need."

It's been a hectic journey into the new building, getting everything set up just right, but the staff has handled it in stride.

"I want to thank our staff for being patient in all of this and still providing our patients with top care," Wedel said. "They have been great and shown wonderful team work."
