On April 13, the McPherson Opera House will be hosting its annual tea fund raiser event, this year titled the Mad Hatter Tea Party. Why a “Mad Hatter” tea party? The name came about because a large collection of vintage hats, representing several decades of styles, will be on display and available for guests to borrow and wear for the day.

The event takes place in the beautifully decorated Grand Ballroom, with each table setting featuring a completely unique design. The afternoon starts at 12:30 p.m. with a champagne reception in the main lobby (and sparkling cider for the young ladies!), followed by a full tea which includes a variety of sandwiches, scones with lemon curd, clotted cream, and strawberry jam, and a scrumptious selection of desserts. A presentation about the fashion history of hats, an Opera House show tickets give-away, live entertainment featuring piano music and a special guest singer, also take place during the day.

“The teas are some of our favorite events. Most all of the programs at the Opera House take place in the theatre, but with the teas we get to showcase the beauty of the Grand Ballroom. There really is no other space quite like it in McPherson,” said Opera House Business Director Diane Fallis. “The Mad Hatter tea is the perfect event for grandmothers, mothers, daughters, and friends to share fun, quality time celebrating each other and celebrating the spring season.”

The event is sponsored by CVR Refining. Tickets are an all-inclusive $30 for adults and $15 for children ages 12 and under. Reserved seating is limited. Tables can accommodate groups of 8. Reservations can be made at www.mcphersonoperahouse.org or through the box office by calling 620-241-1952. For children tickets pricing, please call the box office.
