The local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi – Xi Iota Epsilon recently hosted the annual Red Event benefit on Feb. 9 at the McPherson American Legion.  The past five years members of Xi Iota Epsilon have raised nearly $6,500 benefiting a local woman each year experiencing a personal challenge.  This year’s recipient was Devon Bersuch, who was diagnosed in April 2018 with breast cancer.  The sorority is pleased to have present Devon with a check for $5,000 representing the proceeds from this year’s event.

The Red Event was a success due to the support by the community, family and friends that enjoyed a casual evening of dancing to music by DJ Chuck Collins of Double C, a silent auction and light appetizers.  Special thanks go out to the businesses and individuals that generously donated the great silent auction items: Double C DJ & Entertainment, Hairstyles by Tony, Dave and Cindy Christiansen, Peoples Bank & Trust, McPherson Coop Credit Union, CHS McPherson Refinery, JM Salon, Venable’s Jewelry, Vaughan and Jennifer Burch, Shimmerz Tanning Salon, The Well, The Cooks Nook, Nooks & Crannies, and Preceptor Delta Kappa.

Beta Sigma Phi is a social and cultural organization, started in 1931 in Abilene, Kansas.  There are over 200,000 members in 30 counties with two chapters in McPherson – Xi Iota Epsilon and Preceptor Delta Kappa.  The motto for Beta Sigma Phi is Life, Learning and Friendship.  Service is done locally and internationally and is a tribute to the character of its members.  “Each McPherson chapter has their own programs and projects they organize, such as Preceptor hosted the annual Halloween Carnival that has been going on for over 40 years.  Xi Iota hosted the Red Event, as well as ongoing service projects throughout the community”, stated Jennifer Burch, Xi Iota member.
