TOPEKA — All four No. 1 seeds have advanced to the semifinals of the Class 5A State Tennis Tournament.
Among them is McPherson High School’s Jarrod Nowak, who is looking to become the school’s first singles state champion in program history.
Nowak advanced to the semifinals by defeating Pittsburg’s Dakota Caudle 6-1, 6-1, followed by a 6-1, 6-2 win over Maize South’s Jaden Tredway in the quarterfinals.
Nowak will face Pierto Perego of Topeka Seaman, who was not challenged in either of his two matches on Friday.
Adam Burke of St. James Academy will face Ark City’s Pierce Klaassen in the other semifinals.
Day two of state is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. from the Krossover Tennis Courts in Topeka.
