On Tuesday at approximately 10:15 a.m. a McPherson County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to make a vehicle stop for a seatbelt violation at the 2200 block of East Kansas Avenue in the 24/7 Travel Center parking lot.

Two males were observed in the vehicle which was registered as stolen from Wichita. 

“A chase ensued throughout parts of McPherson and ended, in the 400 block of South Hartup at which the suspects fled the scene on foot,” McPherson County Sheriff Jerry Montagne said. “The driver of the vehicle was located and placed under arrest.”

The passenger, Justin Perry Green, 30, arrested after fleeing on foot. The chase ended in a pond in the area of East 1st and North Maxwell Streets. 

Both the McPherson Middle School and Washington Elementary School, were both placed on lockdown due to safety concerns. 

Michael Alan Huffman, 38 has been placed under arrest and it has been determined that he has two active warrants, one from Reno and the other from Wabaunsee County. In Reno County, Huffman’s warrant is for failure to appear on charges of fleeing on a misdemeanor and interfering with law enforcement. In Wabaunsee a warrant was issued in March for failure to appear.

Huffman was arrested in 2017 in Hutchinson on charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell with an amount between 3.5 and 100 grams. Other charges include possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of other drugs. 

In addition, previous convictions in the state of Kansas include, theft with a loss of greater than $500 less than $25,000 in 1999; possession of depressants, designated stimulants, hallucinogenics, anabolic steroids and possession of opiates, opium, narcotic drugs or designated stimulants from 2013; and possession of paraphernalia to consume controlled substances burglary of a building not used as a dwelling except for theft of a firearm from 2014.

Green was arrested on charges of failure to appear, possession of stolen property and failure to wear a seatbelt.
