BUHLER — A four-run fifth inning and three-run sixth inning was not enough as the McPherson 16U baseball team dug itself too big of a hole Tuesday against Buhler.

The Bullpups fell behind 12-1 after the fourth inning, but the offense began to click in the fifth. Unfortuatenly for the Bullpups, it was too little too late as Buhler picked up an 18-8 win.

Hunter Alvord gave the Bullpups a 1-0 run in the first after he scored from third on a passed ball, but Buhler responded with six runs in the first, three in the second, and three in the fourth to take a 12-1 lead.

The Bullpups cut the lead to 13-8, but five runs in the bottom of the sixth gave Buhler the decisive win.

Camdon James led McPherson with two hits while Jaytin Gumm recorded two RBIs. Alvord pitched 3.1 innings in relief and struck out three.

The Bullpups are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Winfield.
