The McPherson Water Park has made it an option for the entire family to enjoy a nice swim in an affordable way. The various programs at the park along with the slide, lazy river, lap swimming areas, and water splash devices for children, make it a town attraction for the summer. Every Friday night is family night; which means $10 per family for the entire night of swimming. In addition, family nights are often Splash Bashes. Those special Fridays include games and prizes for those families attending the event.
Throughout the summer the water park hosts special days for specific age groups which include free middle school and high school swim nights. The back to school Summer Splash has also become a tradition, which will be in August. July 24 will be the McPherson Recreation Commission Night at which admission will be free for all who attend. Another fun community event will be the United Way Triathlon Aug. 3.
In addition to the fun inside the park, concessions are sold outside of the park so those who aren’t swimming at the pool can still enjoy a snack. Slushies, hotdogs, candy, pop, water, and various other items are sold there.
Swim lessons and a Junior LifeGuard Program is also offered to the community. Sessions are $35 per session. In order to attend, students must be 12 to 14 years old. In the class they will learn CPR, first aid, and rescue techniques with lifeguard skills. After completing the training and required community service, job opportunities will be made available at the McPherson Water Park.
“Junior guards is really great for them to get experience and exposure the the rules and the CPR/first aid knowledge,” Sheresa Laton said. Laton is a lifeguard at the McPherson Water Park. “So when they are ready to become a regular lifeguard, they will ba a stronger one.”
Hours for the park are Sunday through Thursday and Saturdays from 1 to 7 p.m. Fridays from 1 to 8 p.m. Swim lap hours are Monday through Friday from noon to 1 p.m. and Monday through Thursday 7 to 8 p.m.
