LITTLE RIVER—The Little River High School volleyball team is back, healthy and expects to make a run in the postseason with a veteran group.

Redskins' head coach Kim Rolf is excited for her seniors this year. Jaylie Bergkamp, Abbie Hudson Dani Gadberry and Morgan Konen are back and could lead Little River.

The Redskins will also have to rely on their three sophomores Lilly Boughfman, Mekenzie Renken and Riley Bruce. Not only do they bring youth, but each saw plenty of minutes as freshmen last season.

"These girls were the nucleus of our team last year and they all return," Rolf said. "We will see three seniors return that contributed as sophomores and sat out most if not all of their junior years due to their injury."

In addition, the Redskins also added Leah Ayers to the roster who likely could contribute on the court. Rolf said that she had seen growth from her junior players such as Bailey Hodgson, Anna Birdsong and Morgan Bottom. Rolf also mentioned Isabelle Eberle could bring versatility on the court, and Mackenze Barta will have a significant role after showing flashes late last year.

Little River has enough depth to get another crack at the postseason after only making it to the second round of regionals, finishing 22-15 last season.

"As you can see we return a lot of varsity experience," Rolf said. "With that experience alone, we should see a more consistent team. One of the biggest roles on any volleyball team is the ability to control the ball, whether it be in serve receive or defense. Right now, we are focusing on developing that area.

“With that being said, the coaching staff is really looking for kids that can control the ball because if we can do that, I believe we have the other pieces put into place."

The Redskins will open the season at Fairfield High School for a quad on Sept. 3 at 5 p.m.
