Lavanna (Lou) Helm-Lucero (Whitteker) was born September 24th 1951 to Doyle and Dorothy
Whitteker, in McPherson. She is the eldest of three, Martin and Bellyn Whitteker. She
graduated from McPherson high school in 1969. She attended some college before having three children: Shannon, Shawn and Chane. She was a hard worker and held jobs at Pizza Hut,
Hardee's, Femco, John's Manville, truck driver, Beechcraft, Central plastics, and Pleasant View
nursing home. She excelled in all her jobs to management or quality control positions. She
retired from Pleasant View. She also was known to volunteer at senior center sand was on the
board of mcds in the 70s. She loved life and those around her, especially loved fishing and
camping and puzzle books and she was definitely a bookworm.
She met Jerry 1996 playing pool at local pool hall. In which the began their life together and
added four children Lisa, Leslie, Jeremiah, and Amanda.
She was preceded in death by her father, Doyle Whitteker, 1990; her mother, Dorothy Whitteker (Shufelberger), 2004; a son, Billy Shawn Buss, 2015; and a granddaughter, Clara Daun Pierce, 1995.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Lucero, Inman; a brother, Martin Whitteker, Georgia; a sister, Bellyn Whitteker, Missouiri; Children, Shannon Spear, Chane (and Brittney) Helm, Lisa (and Jeremy) Shapiro, Leslie Lucero, Jeremiah (and Maxine) Lucero and Amanda (and Micah); grandchildren, Lara Nix, Jackie Gilby, Lindsey Gilby, Nicholas Houghton, Jade Alexander
Spear, Joscelyn Helm, Savannah and& Ben) Wild, Aspen Pryor, Daytona Doty-Helm, Otto Dennet, Logan Shapiro and Jace Lucero; great-grandchildren, Kade Lee, Daelyn Willis, Lyric Smiley and two on the way; and five nephews with several children.
A celebration of life will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 24, at the girl scout cabin in Lakeside Park, McPherson.
