Joan R. Fortner, 85 of McPherson, died Saturday (Nov. 9, 2019) at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was a homemaker.
She was born Feb. 8, 1934 in Copeland, the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Hamm) Thomas. She was a graduate of Canton High School.
On Nov. 24, 1953, she married Junior L. Fortner at Canton. He preceded her in death on February 26, 2018.
She was a member of the Countryside Covenant Church, McPherson and had been a resident of McPherson for 65 years, moving from Canton.
Survivors include a son, Ron (Charlene) Fortner, Valley Center; a daughter, Sandy (Mike) Alkire, McPherson; two brothers, Larry (Patsy) Thomas, Germantown, Tennessee and Don (Karen) Thomas, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Kenny and Bob preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, (Nov. 15, 2019) at Countryside Covenant Church, McPherson. Interment has taken place in Canton Township Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with The Jesus Film, in care of Olson’s Mortuary, Canton.
