After an important league a week ago, the McPherson High School wrestling team defeated Chapman and Smoky Valley on Thursday to improve to 3-0 in duals on the early season.
The Bullpups were not challenged in either dual, as neither Chapman or Smoky Valley had a complete team.
Against Smoky Valley, McPherson went 5-3 against the Vikings in matches where both teams had a wrestler. McPherson scored 36 points on six opens slots. All five wins were by fall: Lorenzo Cruzen (120), Rhett Edmonson (145), Devin Frantz (160), Landon Frantz (195), and Mason Trash (220).
Smoky Valley picked up two wins by fall thanks to Justice Gardner at 126 and Austin Sharp at 152. Dax Hopp won a close 3-2 decision at 182 over McPherson’s Kourtney Craig.
McPherson was 4-2 against Chapman in matches where both teams had wrestlers with eight open slots. Landon Crews (138), Frantz (160), and Jonah Scott (285) all won by fall, while Frantz at 195 won 16-0 by technical fall.
The Bullpups were a 71-9 winner over Chapman.
Smoky Valley went 1-1 on the day as the Vikings defeated Chapman 40-11. Bronson Golden at 145, Richard Zeller at 160, and Tanner Lutting at 195 all won by fall, while Sharp at 152 won by a 10-0 score.
Smoky Valley scored 18 points on three openings, while Chapman scored six points on an opening at 285.
Smoky Valley is back in action on Saturday at Clay Center. McPherson will be in Colby on Saturday. Results were not available for either match due to press time.
