Though not due to make an appearance for two more weeks, Kysen Miles Christy was ready to claim the honor of being McPherson Hospital’s first baby of 2020. He arrived at 9:26 p.m. on Jan. 2.

Mom Amy and dad Shawn were a bit relieved.

“If he had waited two more weeks, I think he would have been a pretty good size baby,” Shawn said.

He weighed in at 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20 and a half inches long.

Besides the obvious, Kysen and his mom have something interesting in common. She was also a new year’s baby the year she was born, also at McPherson Hospital, which was known as Memorial Hospital at the time.

“I got second place though, because there was another baby born on Jan. 1 before me,” Amy said.

Kysen has two excited brothers Elias, 6 and Brecken, 2 and a half, who are happy to have another boy in the house. Amy is a Registered Nurse with Dr. David Buller of McPherson Medical and Surgical Associates at McPherson Hospital and Shawn works in Halstead at Continental plant.

Maternal grandparents are Michael and Michelle Koehn of Halstead. Paternal grandparents are Donald and Rhonda Christy also of Halstead. Maternal great grandparents are Linda Chilson of McPherson and Boyd Koehn of Halstead. Paternal great grandmother is Beulah Rohr of Topeka.

The delivering physician was Carl Turner, DO of the hospital’s McPherson Medical and Surgical Associates.

The McPherson Hospital volunteers presented the family with a gift basket of baby items collected by hospital volunteers and staff.
