McPHERSON — The McPherson High School boys soccer team loses eight senior from last year’s team, but the Bullpups are looking to reload instead of rebuilding.
A year after reaching the Class 5A Quarterfinals and three years removed from taking third place at state in Class 4-1A, the Bullpups will be more inexperienced than they have been accustomed to.
"Last year we started eight seniors so this year’s team is going to have a different look to it," McPherson head coach Chris Adrian said.
Cody Achilles will look to lead the way for McPherson after registering four goals and a team-high 10 assists last season.
Caden Hardgrave scored five goals last season which is top among returners. Conner Olson scored two goals and had an assist, while Logan Ediger and Gavinn Henry each scored a goal last season.
Adrian also notes defenseman Wesley Wurm as a key returner.
"Replacing a class like that is a challenge but there is a lot of quality in this team and they have had a great summer training," Adrian said. "I’m really looking forward to seeing some of the juniors and sophomores get their shot at the varsity level and show what they can do."
McPherson opened the season on Aug. 29 with a 3-0 defeat to Newton The Bullpups are next in action on Sept. 1 at Salina South.
