John Martin Britting, Sr., 72, of McPherson, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2016 suddenly at McPherson Hospital, McPherson.
John was born in El Dorado on May 18, 1944, a son of Betty Mae (Snyder) and Floyd Orville Britting.
John attended grade school in Topeka and El Dorado. He attended El Dorado Junior High and El Dorado High School and graduated from Rosalia High School, Rosalia, in 1962. He then attended Butler County Community College, El Dorado.
He was a former member of Grace Bible Church of McPherson.
John was an auto mechanic for Blake Oil, parts person and salesman for First Supply, and a parts department manager for McClure - Waggy Ford Dealership, all of El Dorado. He was a salesman for L and D Enterprises of Wichita, president of Harry Lane Supply Company, and a flight instructor and president of Mac Air Corporation at the McPherson Municipal Airport, all of McPherson.
In 2000 he was a flight instructor at FlightSafety International, Wichita, and was currently the ELearning Team Specialty and Enrichment coordinator for FlightSafety.
John was a member of Sons of the American Legion Post 24, Masonic Lodge No. 172, Elk's Lodge No. 502 BPOE, all McPherson; a member of IsIs Shrine of Salina; Kaiser Frazier Association, Experimental Aircraft Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilot's Association. John enjoyed tinkering on cars, working in the yard, and finding and selling parts for automobiles.
John was united in marriage to Dianna Marie Love on June 27, 1964 at El Dorado.
John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over fifty-two years, Dianna Britting, of McPherson; his sons, David Britting of McPherson and Jay Britting of Fayetteville, North Carolina; his brother, Bob Britting and his wife Donna, of Wichita; his sister, Glenda Bilson, of El Dorado; his four grandsons, Aaron, Jeremy, Marc, and Derek Britting; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Floyd Britting.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016 at the Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, with Pastor Stan Seymour officiating. Masonic services will be done by Tim Fowler and members of the McPherson Masonic Lodge No.172.
