Obituary

James Dean Speakman, Sr., 74, of Windom, KS, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 5, 2021, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. He worked as a welder for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1979 to 2000.

James was born on August 21, 1946, in Zanesville, OH, the son of Robert and Dorothy (Hooper) Speakman. He graduated from Nokesville High School in 1964.  After graduation, he married Teresa Barr and they had three children.   He later moved to Kansas, and married  Glenda J. Esaw on June 9, 1979, at Andover Lutheran Church in rural Windom, KS.  They had three children. 

He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of Cornerstone Lodge #219 AF & AM (Little River), American Legion Post #258 (Little River), and  VFW Post #2715 (McPherson).

Survivors include: his wife for nearly 42 years, Glenda of the home; six children, Donnie Speakman and wife, Karen, of Winchester, VA, Ann Marie Bender of Manassas, VA, William Speakman and wife, Mary, of Winchester, VA, Bill Speakman and wife, Ronda, of Hutchinson, KS, Tawnia Braithwaite and husband, David, of Baker, WV, and James Speakman, II of Windom, KS; a sister, Kathy Dollison of Pickerington, OH; a brother, Ted Speakman of Vernon, OH; eleven grandchildren, Chad, Michael, Kat, Brett, Kaelynn, Ryan, Chloe, Alyssa, Troy, Kaylee, and Alicia; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Sandy; brothers, Dan and Rick; a granddaughter, Samantha and a grandson, Christopher Lee.

The memorial service with will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #24 and V.F.W. Post #2715.  Masonic Rites will be held at a later date.
