June 25, 1949-March 30, 2021
Janet Marlene DeTour passed away March 30, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, KS surrounded by Roger, her loving partner and her daughter Macy. This last year she had fought long and hard to remain with us, never complaining, but it was not meant to be. Heaven gained a beautiful, fiery redheaded angel. She was an icon; one in a million whose leaving takes a piece of our hearts. Now we have to honor her memory by pushing forward no matter the circumstances with an “I got this !“ attitude!
Janet was born in McPherson, KS on June 25, 1949 the daughter of Richard and Lorene DeTour. As the only girl with three older brothers, Janet learned early on how to handle any situation life threw her way.
She graduated from McPherson High School in 1967 and she attended Brown Mackie Business School in Hutchinson. For many years she worked at the NCR Refinery in McPherson, KS. Later moving to Hutchinson, KS and then to Wichita, KS. She worked at a variety of jobs at which she excelled and had the love and respect of those she worked with. One of her most memorable jobs was working at M & M Bonding. This job led to her meeting the “love of her life” Roger French. Their love and devotion to one another was very deep. They were by each other’s side through the good times and the bad but they always had fun. Most people never experience that in their lifetime.
She is survived by her soul mate Roger French, daughter Macy (Ryan) Bailey and grandchildren Jayci, Austin, and Shani of Ada, OK ; daughter Kally (Barry) Cunningham and granddaughters Mackenna, Eva and Trinity of Coweta, OK; brother Robert (Judy) DeTour of Carmichael, CA.; sister in law Elaine (Pete) DeTour-Spronken of Tucson, AZ; niece Megan (David) Zint and great niece Harlow Grace Zint of Los Angeles, CA; Meagan (Brian) Heidari and grandchildren Brianna, Michael and John of Wichita, KS; Ryan (Sarah) French and grandsons Jackson and Theo of Louisville, KY; Devon French of Hutchinson, KS; cousins Patti Rowe of Lees Summit, MO and Toni Boehm of Lees Summit, MO. She leaves behind many dear relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother Lorene DeTour, brothers Rickey DeTour and Larry “Bat” DeTour.
Janet was a force to be reckoned with. She radiated love, strength and was devoted to those she loved. Her passing created a huge hole in our hearts and world. She was the driving force that kept us all in line moving forward. Now we move forward to honor her memory. Yes Janet, “We got this!”
At this time there are no services planned due to COVID. Memorials may be made in her memory to Via Christi Cancer Center, 817 N Emporia St, Wichita, KS 67214.
