Thumbs up

Relay For Life preparing now

We give a thumbs up to the people who are working now to make McPherson County Relay For Life a success.

The event raises awareness for cancer research and gives cancer survivors a chance to build friendship and camaraderie. Though the event won’t take place until June, work is already underway to get everything ready, including fundraising efforts.

We encourage everyone to support this event, and if you have time, consider volunteering for this great tradition.

Ground Hog Feed coming up

We give a thumbs up to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ members and others who are working to make Monday’s Ground Hog Feed a great time.

Pork was ground into sausage Wednesday morning, and volunteers will shape patties and prepare food starting Sunday. They will also serve food to the public, and funds raised will benefit not only the church, but the community of Inman.

We hope this year’s feed is a success where people can come together, catch up, and make new friends.

Shopolate boosts Main Street business

We give a thumbs up to McPherson Main Street and local businesses for their support of Shopolate.

This event, now in its second year, showcases local businesses by bringing people in with chocolate treats, exclusive deals and the chance to win a prize basket. It helps overcome the misconception that local businesses won’t have what shoppers want, and dispels the idea that prices at local businesses are higher than at big box stores.

We encourage everyone to support our local businesses, and hope fun events like this continue to bring out the crowds.

Fischer an all-star raising money for heart health

We give a thumbs up to Rachel Fischer, a second-grade student at Lincoln Elementary School, for raising $1,300 for the American Heart Association.

Fischer, along with her fellow students, participated in Hoops for Heart, which encourages healthier living and raises money for heart health research. Fischer has family and friends who have struggled with heart health, so she took the chance to encourage people to take better care of their hearts and support research efforts. Overall, students raised somewhere between $3,000 and $3,500.

We congratulate her, and all students, for their efforts in this cause, and hope it leads people to better lifestyles and healthier lives.

Main Street Deli has best Kansas cookies

We give a thumbs up to Main Street Deli for recent recognition of its peanut butter M&M cookies.

Insider named the cookies the best in Kansas after a review of online ratings. While other cookies come and go, the peanut butter M&M has stayed on as a customer favorite. The honor is a great way to celebrate the restaurant’s 25th year in business.

We congratulate Main Street Deli for this honor, and hope all our local businesses continue to make McPherson proud.
