With 130,000 Kansans being the most recent number of applicants for unemployment, COVID-19 seems to be on the minds of all Americans. Even more alarming is the economic crisis that has engulfed both our low income and middle class families, which is outpacing the health crisis itself.
Landlords and tenants feel the pressure as tenants struggle to pay this month’s rent, waiting for their stimulus checks to come to feed their families, pay for transportation and other basic needs.
Thankfully, bills like Sen. Moran's GI relief bill, which aims to protect veterans by continuing their GI benefits. He deserves thanks for these efforts. As this pandemic continues, I urge Sens. Moran and Roberts to continue supporting Kansans in the next COVID-19 stimulus package by providing $100 billions in emergency rental assistance and enacting a national moratorium on evictions.
I also urge them to help Kansas keep meals on the table by increasing the maximum SNAP benefit by 15% during the economic crisis.
