McPHERSON–After suffering its first Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) loss at Southwestern Thursday, the McPherson College women's tennis team got back in the win column Saturday with a 5-4 victory over Tabor College at the McPherson High School courts.
The Bulldogs (3-2, 3-1 KCAC) took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Brittany Zipf and Besa Bwalya topped Jessica Emoto and Mandi Hiett, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles and Zoë Bouwmeester and Deiah Curtis picked up an 8-4 win over Heidi Klaassen and Olivia Brubacher.
Bwalya, Bouwmeester and Curtis all scored straight-set singles victories to clinch the match victory. Bwalya defeated Naima Mexsen, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2, Bouwmeester beat Klaassen, 6-0, 7-5, in the No. 3 spot, and Curtis edged Brubacher, 6-2, 7-6 (4), at No. 4 singles.
The Bluejays (7-5, 1-1 KCAC) picked up a win at No. 1 singles as Emoto topped Zipf by a 6-2, 6-4 score in addition to forfeit victories at No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles.
McPherson returns to the courts Wednesday afternoon when Bethany College travels to McPherson for a KCAC dual. First serve from the McPherson High School courts is slated for 4 p.m.
