LYONS–The McPherson College women's tennis team improved to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) with a 6-3 win over Sterling College Thursday afternoon at Lyons High School.
The Bulldogs were victorious in both of the contested doubles matches as Brittany Zipfand Besa Bwalya topped Janae Ryan and Keeley Hipp by an 8-2 score at No.1 and Zoë Bouwmeester and Deiah Curtis defeated Maddie Thrasher and Brooklynn Campbell by the same score at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, Zipf and Curtis cruised to 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively, while Bouwmeester topped Thrasher, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot. At No. 2 singles, Bwalya was blanked in the first set, 6-0, before bouncing back to take the final two sets, 6-3, 6-2, to close out the match.
Sterling (4-8, 3-3 KCAC) picked up forfeit victories at No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles due to McPherson's lack of players.
McPherson returns to the courts Sunday afternoon to face Bethany College in a match that was postponed from earlier in the month. First serve from McPherson High School is slated for 1 p.m.
