EMPORIA—The McPherson College men's track and field team sent a select number of participants to Saturday's Sam Williams Twilight Qualifier for one final attempt to reach or better qualifying marks for the 2018 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Dylan Templeman was the only Bulldog to improve on a previous qualifying mark. He placed fifth in the discus with a B-cut throw of 48.75 meters (159-11) and now sits 25th on the NAIA's performance list.
Hunter Sury took fifth in the 100 with a time of 10.64 to record another NAIA "B" cut mark but could not improve on his automatic-qualifying time of 10.48 from the Southwestern Invitational in March. He also finished sixth in the 200 in 21.95, just behind Matthew Bouwkamp in fifth (21.94), while Xavier Taylor crossed the line in 22.73.
Amari Heisser and Bryson Crayton both competed in the 110 and 400 hurdles with Crayton setting a new personal-best with a 15.67 clocking in the 110 highs.
Robert Shaw cleared 1.93 meters (6-4) to win the high jump, while Tanner Trigg placed eighth in the discus throw (45.89m; 150-7) and Cain Fowles took fifth in the javelin throw with a personal-best of 53.30 meters (174-10).
McPherson has 10 qualified entries for the national meet, including seven automatic marks.
The final NAIA perfomance list was posted Monday, May 14, with the posting of final event entries to follow on Friday, May 18.
The 2018 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships will be held Thursday-Saturday, May 24-26, at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
