DERBY—Over the weekend, the McPherson Aqua Pups opened their 2018 summer swim season by competing at the ‘Summer Sizzler’ Swim Meet hosted by the Wichita Aqua Shocks in Derby.

It was the first long course competition for the Aqua Pups this season and according to Coach Kyle Banman, McPherson had 17 swimmers competing in the meet.

“This was the first meet for most of these kids back in the big pool,” Coach Banman noted. “There were a lot of really nice time drops, which is to be expected with entry times from last summer, but I was really pleased with the way they competed. The conditions were certainly plenty warm, but it didn’t slow them down one bit.”

With the weekend meets not keeping team scores, the Aqua Pups could concentrate on just the individual results. Banman added that the tri-meets that will be on Tuesday evenings will be the same way, no team scores.

The Aqua Pups will be back in action on Saturday, June 16 in Manhattan at the Little Apple Invitational, before making their home debut with a tri-meet on Tuesday, June 19 when Salina and Hutchinson come to McPherson for the first of three tri-meets.
