LINDSBORG—The Swedes volleyball team lost another heart breaker tonight. Bethany fell to the visiting Spires of Saint Mary; 25-27, 10-25, 25-23, and 20-25.
Bethany started out the first game strong, battling point for point with the Spires. Neither team gave an inch throughout the set, as the largest lead in the set was five with three lead changes and 19 ties. Finally, the Spires were able to sneak out two points at the right time to win the set.
Saint Mary then came out strong in the second set and took a 19-5 lead with the help of a 10-point run. Bethany then tried to climb their way back but the Spires had a strong enough lead to carry them through the finish of the second set.
The Swedes woke up in the third set got back to trading points and battling for the lead with the Spires. Bethany was able to cut off a late Spire run to take set three 25-23.
In set four, it was much of the same. With the teams trading points throughout the final set. However, again Saint Mary was able to sneak out a win to take the set and the match.

Jordan Valentine, freshman middle, led the team with 19 kills. The freshman had only three errors to hit a .533. Ivona Vojvodic, junior setter, commanded the Swedes' offense with 38 assists.Three Swedes picked up double-digit digs; Haley Reifsteck, sophomore libero, led the team with 19. She was followed by Vojvodic and Brenna Black, junior passer, had 11 and 10, respectively.

The Swedes have their final regular season game on Friday, Nov. 2 when they host the Bethel Threshers. This senior night contest is set to begin at 7 p.m.
