LINDSBORG— The Swedes volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep of the visiting Bethel Threshers tonight.
Bethany came out of the gate strong, stringing together little runs to take a solid lead in the first set. The Swedes were able to carry this lead out for a big 25-15 win.
The Swedes started the second set similar to the first, but this time the Threshers were able to answer back with a few runs of their own. However, Bethany was able to maintain a solid lead throughout the contest. Finally, the Swedes closed things out to take the second set, 25-19.
The third set was a real nail biter with the teams trading points constantly throughout the match. In the set, the teams tied 12 times with two different lead changes, the largest of which was four points. Finally, the Threshers were up on the Swedes 24-20, however, a six-point run by Bethany gave the Swedes the set and the match.

Jordan Valentine, freshman middle, led the Bethany offense with 13 kills, hitting a .476 on the day. In their final home game as a Swede, Jolinalynn Achiu, senior hitter, and Madie Baker, junior hitter, had eight and nine kills, respectively. Ivona Vojvodic, junior setter, led the team with 29 assists while Madelaine Melsness, junior setter, and Karissa Chaparro, senior setter, recorded three and two assists in their final game inside Hahn Gymnasium.
Defensively, the Swedes were led by Haley Reifsteck, sophomore libero who recorded 19 digs. Behind her was Brittney Roush, junior passer, with nine.

The Swedes will await the remaining regular season games to see their draw in the KCAC Championships on Friday, Nov. 9. This tournament will take place at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson.
