LINDSBORG—The Bethany wrestling team kicked off their 2018-19 season with a 45-3 dual win over Kansas Wesleyan today. This dual was a part of the Martenelli's Pasta Bowl Challenge and the First Bank Kansas Smoky Hill Showdown rivalry series.
The Swedes picked up six points right away as senior, Logan McDowell won by forfeit due to an empty KWU weight class. Sophomore, Trey Edwards then picked up six points for his team in the 133 lb. class with a pin in 2:47 over Wesleyan's Zach Knox. In the 141 lb. weight class, senior, Caysen Smith defeated his opponent 4-3 to give the Swedes another three points.
At the 149 lb. class, both schools had an open class, leading to a double forfeit. Sophomore, Conner Mares-Ballard pinned his opponent in 4:16 in the 157 lb. weight class. Senior, Brandon Lawson-Archuleta then pinned his opponent in just 1:07 to add another six points to the Swedes' team total. Sophomore, Zach Gadbois, junior, Kevin Reamey, and freshman, Joshua Wilson each won their bouts due to openings on the KWU end. It was not until the final match of the game that the Coyotes got on the board. Freshman, Brix Brickey was unable to hold off his KWU opponent, losing the match 5-2.

The Swedes return to action next Saturday, Nov. 10 hosting the Swede Open. This tournament will take place at Smoky Valley High School and Smoky Valley Middle School.
