Destinee Wells has been named the NAIA National Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Wells was nominated for her performances during the week of Oct. 29 – Nov. 4 and were selected out of a pool of conference and Association of Independent Institutions award winners.

Two overtime shutout wins

Wells was instrumental in the Swedes' KCAC quarterfinal win at Friends University. During 96 minutes she was in the net, Wells kept the Swedes alive with 14 saves, setting the team up for the 1-0 overtime win. 

"We are so proud of Destinee for receiving this national recognition," Swedes head coach, Justin Olson. "She has put in a lot of work to get to this point and it's great to see her be rewarded for her efforts. She has bailed us out when we needed her to this season especially in the last two overtime games. Congrats to her and we are looking forward to seeing her continue to improve."
