The McPherson College volleyball team left this morning at 6 a.m. headed for Sioux City, Iowa, the final site for the 2018 NAIA National Tournament. The Bulldogs head into the final 32 with an overall record of 33-2, and are coming off a thrilling five set victory in the opening round, nine days ago, at home against the Texas Wesleyan University Rams.
For the Bulldogs, this is their first ever trip to the NAIA final site, and they find themselves in group H with Northwestern College (Iowa), Rocky Mountain College (Montana), and Marian University (Indiana) for three rounds of pool play. The top two in the pool will advance to the final 16, and from there it is a single elimination tournament.
The Bulldogs will arrive in Sioux City this afternoon, and they will participate in a tournament banquet put on by the NAIA later this evening. For the Mac ladies, play begins on Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. against the Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears, and they will do so without head coach Jessica Cleveland on the sidelines. On Wednesday last week, Coach Cleveland went into labor, and gave birth to a son, Jaxson.
After Tuesday's match with the Bears, the Bulldogs will continue pool play on Wednesday at 6 p.m. against the Red Raiders of Northwestern College. They will wrap up pool play on Thursday against the Marian University Knights also at 6 p.m. If they make it out of pool play, they will play the round of 16 and the quarterfinals on Friday, the semifinals and finals will be on Saturday.
