Omar Salgado of the men's soccer team was selected as the winner of the 2018 NCCAA D1 Men's Soccer Kyle Rote, Jr. Award on Sunday evening, in recognition of his leadership qualities that he has brought to the team and the school.

The following is the press release from the NCCAA.

GREENVILLE, SC—The NCCAA is pleased to announce Omar Salgado of Central Christian College of Kansas as the 2018 Kyle Rote, Jr. Award Recipient for Division I Men's Soccer.

The junior, from Bedford, Texas, is a player who leads by example. Throughout his career, Salgado has experienced highs and lows by overcoming numerous injuries, yet he finds a way to play through it. His resiliency and toughness have served him well during his tenure with the Tigers. Salgado is considered one of the hardest workers on the team and is known for playing hard no matter the score or time left on the clock.

A leader off the field as well, Salgado is a biology and ministry major. His 3.9 GPA has allowed him many academic accolades such as the Dean's and President's lists multiple times. Additionally, he has been named to the NAIA All-Scholar Team and is an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete. Salgado is a role model of service by volunteering to host recruits for admissions and helping to lead various service projects on campus. He was an RA during his second year on campus where he helped to lead the students in his dorm's wing in various Bible studies.

Head Coach Aaron Hoxie stated, "Omar is a quality player who has been a vital member of our squad over the last three seasons. He doesn't receive all of the awards, but he wouldn't really want them anyway! He would rather have his teammates get the recognition instead. Where he does stand out is in his testimony and faith walk. This is evident in every facet of his life. Whether on campus, the field, or in the classroom, his love for Jesus is evident in how he treats people by serving them."
