LITTLE RIVER—It was an okay season in 2017-18 for the Little River boys basketball team as they finished 17-6 overall and 7-2 in the Wheat State League which was good for fourth, but now they look to repeat with a much younger team.

Head Coach Chad Lafferty heads into his 10th season in leading the Redskins carrying an overall mark of 115-82, but facing a schedule in 2018-19 with a young team that will also be short on height.

Three starters will return for Little River including last season’s super freshman Jayden Garrison who hopes to improve as a six-foot sophomore on his 18.7 scoring average that went along with 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Jace Garrison, a six-foot-one senior also comes back with a double digit scoring average at 10.0 points per game, while also earning 5.5 rebounds per game. The third returning starter, Graham Stephens, will also just be a sophomore and averaged 7.8 points per game last season while pulling down 4.2 rebounds, making 2.5 steals and dishing out 2.0 assists as well. The other sophomore returnee with much game experience will be Trey Rolfs.

“This season’s success will depend a lot upon our team speed and being able to push the ball offensively while putting pressure on teams defensively,” remarked Coach Lafferty. “We will most likely be at a height disadvantage every game and will need to pressure the ball to not allow any easy passes, especially into the post area. We have a few sophomores who gained a lot of experience last year as freshman and hopefully that experience will help them to continue to get better this year, while the upperclassmen we have will have to step up and be leaders.”

The Little River boys will open the season on Friday, Nov. 30, when they host Lincoln.
