MOUNDRIDGE — It would be hard-pressed to find a more improved player last year than Moundridge High School point guard Dillon Vogts.

Vogts seemingly came out of nowhere and had a breakout junior season where he averaged over 16 points a game, over five assists, and over two steals a game. Offensively, Vogts was dynamic in his ability to hit shots from anywhere on the court.

Vogts, now a senior, will not sneak up on anyone and will be atop the scouting report for any team facing Moundridge.

The biggest obstacle facing the Wildcats this season will be replacing Noah Eichelberger and his 20 points a game. Vogts will undoubtedly need to produce offensively, but the Wildcats will need others to step up as well.

“I don’t believe that any one player can make that kind of scoring for us,” head coach Vance Unrau said, “but we will have to collectively find some scoring to compliment Dillon Vogts, who really became a team-leader for us at the point guard position last season.”

Junior Brady Helms was solid as a sophomore last year, but will have an increased role this season. Helms, a 6-foot-3 forward and post, averaged over eight points and four rebounds a game last year.

The Wildcats do not possess much height, so Helms will have to play to his size and perhaps bigger.

“We haven’t had a legit inside presence for quite some time,” Unrau said. “I am hopeful that we can find the pieces with our returning lettermen to score in various ways, including a commitment to defense and rebounding.”

The Wildcats return five additional lettermen, but are otherwise an inexperienced team.

“The development of our returning lettermen will be a key to our overall team success.”

The Wildcats will have their home-opener as they host Elyria Christian School on Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
