KANSAS CITY, MO—The Bethany men's basketball team was able to finish off a 72-65 victory over the Avila Eagles tonight.

The Swedes got out to an early lead and pushed their lead to seven before the Eagles were able to go on a quick 8-0 run to grab a 1-0 lead. However, the Swedes were able to rebound and go 17-0 run over the next three minutes to take back a comfortable lead over the Eagles. Over the final three and a half minutes of the half, the Eagles were able to work the Swedes' lead back down a little. Bethany went into the break with an 11-point advantage.

The Eagles started the second half off with a 7-2 run over the first five minutes of the game. However, the Swedes were able to again go on an eight-point run to lead by double-digits. For the remaining 12 minutes, the teams would go back and forth with the Swedes fighting off Avila's attempts to get back within striking distance.

Tyler Larkin, senior guard, led things for the Swedes with 25 points and five assists. Isiah Saenz, sophomore guard, came up with 15 points and five assists, and Lavaris Duncan, sophomore center, with 14 points. Mitchell Brown, senior guard, also dished out five assists.

Larkin and Duncan each had a double-double with 10 rebounds apiece. As a team, Bethany pulled down 48 rebounds compared to Avila's 26.

The Swedes shot 45 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from long range.
